Question 1

What does reversing a GIF do?

Accepted Answer

It puts the frames in the opposite order, so the animation plays from the end to the beginning. Each frame keeps its own timing.

Question 2

What is a boomerang GIF?

Accepted Answer

A loop that plays forward and then backward, like Instagram's Boomerang. The first and last frames aren't repeated at the turnaround, so the motion stays smooth.

Question 3

Why is the reversed GIF bigger?

Accepted Answer

GIFs are usually optimized to store only what changes from one frame to the next. Played backwards, the changes are different, so the file is re-optimized and can come out slightly bigger. A boomerang has almost twice the frames.

Question 4

Is this a reverse image search?

Accepted Answer

No. This tool plays a GIF backwards. To find where a GIF came from, use Google Lens or TinEye.

Question 5

Is my GIF uploaded?
